Five Great Tips For Fast Spring Cleaning

The official first day of spring is March 20 but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until then for spring cleaning. You may devote some time to cleaning your home every week but it is spring cleaning that really gets the job done. Traditionally, this is the floor to ceiling cleaning that won’t leave a single crumb or dust bunny in your home.

The reason why spring is picked for this type of thorough cleaning really is about fresh air. The idea that you can throw open your windows to let in that fresh air helps with the cleaning attitude. This year you might want to incorporate these five tips to speed up your spring cleaning process.

One Room at a Time

The best approach to spring cleaning is to go through one room at a time. Although you may think that going from room to room dusting and then vacuuming all at once is a timesaver it actually has you backtracking. The goal should be when you enter room you won’t be leaving until everything is clean. That includes the windows and windowsills. This approach can also help you break up the spring cleaning over the course of the weekend so you don’t feel overwhelmed. You can do three rooms on Saturday and three rooms on Sunday.

Carry A Caddy

A great lesson to take from hotel maids is that they bring everything they need in a cart to each room. Imagine if they had to go back and forth from the stockroom in between every clean session. It would take forever. This doesn’t mean you need to get your own cleaning cart. A small carry caddy that can hold all your rags, sponges, polishes and cleaners will be a big help. You can even throw all that into an old bucket. This is what you carry from room to room so you’re not going back and forth and taking up valuable time.

Collect Clutter

The amount of clutter you have in your home is equal to the amount of occupants. The more family members, the more clutter. Try as you might, it’s hard to keep everyone on the same page when it comes to picking up their stuff. This is why you might want to bring a plastic storage bin into each room.

As you dust and straighten up you can toss all clutter objects into that storage bin. Perfect place for books, shoes, backpacks, toys and anything else that’s floating around. Leave the bin right there on the floor and tell everyone in the family they have until sundown to claim their possessions otherwise they’re getting tossed out. Watch how fast the clutter gets cleared.

Dust From Top To Bottom

When you start dusting, it’s important to go from top to bottom in a room. Start with the corners in the ceiling. You can tie an old dishtowel to a broom and use that to literally sweep out those ceiling corners. If you’ve got a collection of mismatched socks, then they become great dusting mittens. Even fabric softener sheets work great for dusting and are a lot less expensive than those microfiber cloths. Also, a lead role is great for cleaning lampshades.

Turn Your Unwanted Rubbish Over The Junk Works

As you go through each room, you’re sure to find plenty of things that you want to get rid of that might not be able to fit in the trash can. This is where Junk Works comes into play. These are the professional junk haulers who can make any pile of rubbish disappear in a flash. You don’t have to move heavy objects like a sofa or recliner out of your house for junk works to pick up. The crew assigned to your task will happily pick it up from the spot. That includes anything upstairs or down the basement.

If you’re sorting through your closet, then you can create another pile right there for Junk Works to remove. Keep in mind that everything that junk works takes from your house also has the opportunity to be repurposed. They’ll gladly make drop-offs at charities with all your usable items. That should make you feel good about getting rid of a lot of unwanted stuff in your home.
