Declutter Your Home Checklist

Bedrooms/Closets

1. Pack up winter clothing – time to bring out your spring/summer clothes and put your sweaters into hibernation
2. Underbed storage – take out everything you have under your bed and organize it
3. Shoes – reevaluate your shoe collection. Are you going to wear those shoes you haven’t touched in a year? Are these shoes still comfortable?
4. Clear surfaces – take a second look at bookshelves, nightstands, desks, etc. Do you need all the items that you have our right now? Are there items you can toss, donate or recycle?

Basement

1. Old furniture – ask yourself if you can part ways with it
2. Abandoned computer equipment – it’s time to let go of those old monitors, processors and keyboards
3. Outdated televisions – if you still have that bulky box TV sitting in your basement, now is the time to get it out of the house
4. Organize – put away toys, books, etc. in storage bins

Garage

1. Empty your garage – take out everything that isn’t bolted down
2. Create three piles – trash, sell/donate and keep
3. Evaluate your items – if you haven’t used something for 12 months or more, get rid of it. You probably no longer need it.
4. Utilize wall space – hang up any power tools, shovels, brooms, etc.
5. Storage – label any storage you have such as drawers, cabinets and bins so you can find things easily and keep them organized
6. Transform – turn your garage into a makeshift gym or workshop you can use while practicing social distancing
